PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involved the design and construction of a new 64,500 SF building that was built to consolidate UMass Dartmouth's School of Marine Science & Technology faculty and researchers onto one central campus and allow for future program expansion.

This new building (referred to as SMAST East because it is on the same site as the original SMAST building) houses new research laboratories, classrooms, administration space for SMAST personnel, office space for the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) and holds a permit office for local fishermen.  It also has a seawater research facility with marine tanks and a wave tank.

Some limited renovations were carried out on the original SMAST building (SMAST I) including HVAC upgrades.

The new building has a LEED Silver rating.
